How Much Does Acupuncture Cost in Singapore, and What a First Visit Includes

RP Clinical Team4 min read

At RP Clinic in Orchard Road, Singapore, a first acupuncture visit is $88 nett. It includes a consultation with a registered TCM physician, followed by your first treatment, with GST included. The treatment is one of acupuncture, tuina, cupping, gua sha or a part trial of Acufacial, recommended by the physician after the consultation. The $88 first visit applies to online bookings only.

The cost of further sessions is set out after your consultation, once the physician has assessed you and recommended a plan. You are told the plan and its full cost before any treatment begins. TCM medications, if prescribed, are quoted separately.

What does the $88 first visit include?

Two things: the consultation and one treatment. The physician takes a detailed history, followed by an examination, then recommends one of the following: acupuncture, tuina, cupping, gua sha or Acufacial (part trial). Acufacial is facial acupuncture; the part trial is a session on part of the face. Where the condition calls for it, cupping or gua sha is added to acupuncture on the same visit rather than counted as a separate item.

The price is $88 nett with GST included, and it applies to visits booked online. Herbal medicine is not part of the $88. If the physician recommends a prescription, the cost is quoted after the consultation.

What happens during the consultation?

Expect more questions than you may be used to: sleep, digestion, energy through the day, stress. TCM reads these together as a pattern rather than as separate complaints. The physician also reads your pulse and tongue, then explains what the pattern suggests and what would address it, in plain language. If TCM is not the right tool for what you have, you will be told that too.

You do not need to know what is wrong before you come; working that out is what the consultation is for. Consultations are conducted in English or Mandarin. Bring a list of any medication you currently take, as the physician plans around it.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people are surprised by how little they feel. We use single-use SEIRIN® needles made in Japan, 0.10 mm in diameter, which are far finer than the needles used for injections. The common sensation is a dull heaviness at the point rather than a sharp one. Before anything is placed, the physician explains where the needles will go and why.

How long is a session, and how many will I need?

The number of sessions and the interval between them depend on what is being treated, and are arranged at your consultation. As a general rule, acute problems are treated closer together and maintenance is spaced out. The plan is reviewed against how you respond rather than held to a fixed number set on the first day. A body acupuncture session also includes manual work on the areas treated.

What is acupuncture used for at RP Clinic?

Body acupuncture is most often used for pain and tension: neck and shoulder pain from desk work, back and lower back pain, joint aches in the knees, hips and wrists, and muscular tension that stays knotted. It is also used for fatigue and heaviness, and for poor circulation, such as cold hands and feet.

For sleep and stress, fine needles are placed at points on the scalp, ears, limbs and abdomen, chosen for your pattern rather than from a fixed protocol. Most people find the session itself restful, and a good number fall asleep on the table.

How is the cost of later sessions decided?

After the consultation, the physician tells you the recommended plan and its full cost before anything is done, so you decide with the numbers in front of you. Prices do not change based on when you decide. Acupuncture, tuina and cupping are often combined in one visit, and which you need is the physician's call at the consultation.

Who performs the treatment?

FAQ

Is the $88 first visit only for acupuncture?

No. The $88 covers the consultation with a registered TCM physician and one treatment: acupuncture, tuina, cupping, gua sha or a part trial of Acufacial. The physician recommends one after the consultation, based on what is found.

Do I need to know what is wrong before I come?

No. Come with your symptoms. The physician takes your history, reads your pulse and tongue, and explains what the pattern suggests before recommending a treatment.

Can I have acupuncture while taking medication?

Usually yes. Bring a list of what you take; the physician plans around it. Nothing you are taking should be stopped on our account; that is your doctor's decision.
