Melasma is assessed by the doctor first, with Visia skin analysis, because it behaves differently from sun spots and can worsen with aggressive settings.
Treatment is usually planned as a gentle course of picosecond laser, alongside daily sun protection and, where appropriate, prescribed topical care. Melasma tends to need ongoing management rather than a single clearing course, so the plan is reviewed as your skin responds.
They can look alike. Sun spots are usually well defined and appear where the skin gets the most sun. Melasma tends to appear as broader, symmetrical patches on the cheeks, forehead or upper lip, and is linked to hormones as well as sunlight.
The doctor confirms which one you have, with Visia skin analysis, before any treatment is planned.
