Sylfirm X in Singapore: Who It Is Suitable For, and Who Should Consider Something Else

RP Clinical Team5 min read

Sylfirm X is a radiofrequency (RF) microneedling device, performed by the doctor at RP Clinic in Orchard Road, Singapore. It is most commonly suitable for acne scars, uneven texture, enlarged pores and mild skin laxity, and its pulsed-wave mode is used where persistent redness or visible vessels are part of the picture. It is approached cautiously in melasma, and it is not the first choice where the main concern is defined pigment spots, dehydration, or lifting of the lower face.

At RP Clinic, a first Sylfirm X session is $399 nett. It includes your doctor's consultation, Visia skin analysis and a full-face session, with GST included, and the doctor performs every session. Whether Sylfirm X is suitable for you is decided during that consultation. If it is not, you will be informed and an alternative discussed instead.

How Sylfirm X works, in brief

Very fine needles pass through the surface and release radiofrequency energy at a set depth. The skin receives two stimuli at once: the micro-channel, which prompts the body's repair response, and the radiofrequency, which heats the surrounding dermis. Because the energy is released below the surface rather than on it, the outer skin is disturbed less than with treatments that work downwards from the surface.

The device delivers energy in two modes. Continuous-wave delivery is used where the aim is texture and tightening. Pulsed-wave delivery releases energy in short bursts and is generally used where vascular and pigment-related concerns are involved. Needle depth, energy level and mode are chosen for your skin and adjusted as the session goes, which is why the doctor performs every session here.

Suitability by skin concern

  • Acne scars and uneven texture: commonly suitable. Treatment is planned as a course, commonly four sessions around three weeks apart, and results build across the course rather than after one session. Deep, narrow ice-pick scars and heavily tethered scars generally need procedural techniques that energy devices do not replace; a course will improve the surrounding texture but not those pits.
  • Enlarged pores: commonly treated across the cheeks and nose. The aim is pores that are less visible, not pores that are closed.
  • Persistent redness and visible vessels: pulsed-wave mode is used for vascular concerns. Redness has several causes, so the doctor identifies the cause prior to planning any energy-based treatment.
  • Melasma: approached cautiously and only after assessment. Melasma can be unpredictable with any energy-based treatment and can worsen with aggressive settings. If you have melasma, the doctor will discuss the risk of it worsening before recommending anything.
  • Skin laxity: radiofrequency heating supports firmness, and Sylfirm X is suitable where mild laxity sits alongside texture concerns. Where firming or contouring is the main aim, deeper treatment such as HIFU may be discussed instead.
  • Neck: treated as its own area, or together with the face.

Who should consider something else

  • Your main concern is defined pigment: sun spots, age spots and post-acne marks are usually addressed with picosecond laser, which targets pigment directly.
  • Your main concern is dehydration, dullness or fine crepey lines: skin boosters place hydrating preparations in the dermis and are aimed at skin quality rather than texture or scarring.
  • Your main aim is lifting or contouring: HIFU may be discussed, as it treats at greater depth.
  • You cannot plan around downtime: expect redness and a warm, sunburn-like feeling for one to two days, and fine pinpoint marks may be visible briefly. Topical numbing is applied, and some discomfort during the session is expected.
  • You have melasma that has not been assessed: the assessment comes first, and the plan for pigment usually centres on conservative picosecond laser, daily sun protection and topical care.
  • Your medical history: skin type, medical history and current medications all affect whether this treatment is appropriate, and whether any treatment is suitable at all. This is screened during your consultation.

How Sylfirm X, pico laser and skin boosters divide the work

The three address different layers of the problem. Sylfirm X works on structure: scarring, texture, pores and mild laxity. Picosecond laser works on pigment: defined spots, uneven tone and post-acne marks. Skin boosters work on skin quality: hydration, elasticity and light reflection. Many people have more than one of these concerns at the same time, and the question at consultation is which to address first. All three are performed by the doctor, and the order and spacing are set out in your written plan.

What the first visit includes

The $399 covers your doctor's consultation, Visia skin analysis and a full-face Sylfirm X session. Topical numbing is applied prior to treatment. If a course is recommended, the number of sessions and the cost of each are set out during your consultation, before anything is agreed. You do not need to book a separate consultation first; it is part of the visit.

FAQ

Is Sylfirm X suitable for melasma?

Only after assessment, and cautiously. Melasma can worsen with aggressive energy-based treatment, so the doctor assesses the pigment with Visia skin analysis first and discusses the risk before recommending anything. In many cases, melasma is managed with conservative picosecond laser, sun protection and topical care rather than with RF microneedling.

Can Sylfirm X and pico laser be done in the same plan?

They address different things, texture and pigment, and both are commonly relevant. Whether both are planned, and in what order, is decided during your consultation and set out in your written plan.

How many Sylfirm X sessions are needed?

It is commonly planned as a course of four, spaced around three weeks apart. One session is the start of the treatment rather than the treatment itself, and results build across the course.

Who performs Sylfirm X at RP Clinic?

The doctor performs every session. Needle depth, energy level and delivery mode are selected for your skin throughout the session, and that judgement sits with the doctor.
